Mel Meyers graduated in 1961 from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelors degree and in 1962 with a Masters degree in Aero/Space Engineering. His first job was with Lockheed Aircraft in Burbank, CA., where he was a member of the Supersonic Transport design team. In 1965 he jointed TRW Systems in Clear Lake City, Texas, and became a member of the Apollo Space Program. His primary responsibility was the onboard verification of the re-entry guidance and navigation system for the Apollo spacecraft.

After being the branch manager for nine years and building a sizeable agency, he returned to full time production. In 1990, he was elected by the field force to the Sun Life Agent Advisor Committee. This committee is comprised of the leading agents in the company.
Mel was elected to the NAIFA-Dallas board of directors in 1994 for a three year term where he serviced as Community Service Director and Membership Retention Director. In 1997 he was elected to the Executive Committee and served as President of NAIFA-Dallas from 1999-2000.
